Jeff Wigbels enjoys a good glass of wine, and in 2002 he began stocking his cellar with wines from GlenLyon Vineyards & Winery. Located in the northern tip of the Sonoma Valley, the family-owned winery specializes in high-end, vineyard-designated small lots of wine.
Upon learning that he had cancer, Jeff contacted GlenLyon vineyard manager Squire Fridell to let him know that he would not be purchasing wine in the near future. In response, Squire sent him a gratis shipment and included a note in which he asked Jeff to display the wine on his mantle as an incentive to fight — and survive — the disease.
The evening Jeff completed treatment, he and his wife, Tiffany, celebrated with a glass of GlenLyon wine from the bottle on the mantle.
In honor of Jeff and his family’s fight against cancer, Squire created SURVIVOR, a wonderful blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grown and made into wine at GlenLyon. Only 40 cases of SURVIVOR were produced from the 2008 vintage, and for every bottle purchased, $20 is donated to The Take Aim at Cancer Research Fund at M. D. Anderson.
